Adventures in Babysitting (A Night on the Town)

Babysitting Blues
This is one of those films that had completely disappeared from my radar, until a few years ago when I was watching a bit of Sunday arvo television.
The Disney logo flashed up and I quickly scrambled for the remote, but in my haste I made the fatal mistake of dropping it to the floor, where as always, the batteries came flying out. I started to panic as the antichrist logo faded out and a new one came into view – it read Adventures in Babysitting. I had no idea what that was, but it did not sound good. With my heart pounding away, I eventually got the batteries back into my lifeline and the second before I made the switch I saw Liz Shue on screen – suddenly the memories came flooding back…A Night on he Town.
This movie has been lost in the shuffle a little for Australian audiences, owing mainly to the fact that back in the 80s it was called A Night on the Town here and in the U.K. – then at some time it was changed back to its original U.S. name Adventures in Babysitting, without anyone caring to mention it to me.
Remember when they used to do that? Or they would change the name of the film when it aired on TV? Absolutely senseless…
Ironically, I probably first watched this when I was getting babysat, or as I used to say, my sister was the one being sat – no one had to look after me, baby!
I also remember watching it with Bobby Finstock and his sister back in ’89 and talking about hitting the streets for a ‘Night on the Town’ of our own – which sounds extremely seedy now, which is probably why they didn’t stick with that name.
The gang get up to a bunch of crazy stuff in downtown Chicago (it was actually filmed in Toronto), and I used to always wait for ‘Thor’ to show up. The coolest part of the film, however, is when they get stuck onstage in the club with Albert Collins and he won’t let them leave until they lay down some blues. Classic.
And in concordance with every single movie I bring up on this blog…it is set for a sequel in 2010 – starring…Miley Cyrus.
“Nobody leaves this place without singing the blues.”

It always be A Night on the Town for me...
But how ridiculous does Vincent D'Onofrio (Det. Goran) look with his long flowing blonde locks as 'Thor'?
Not good news about a sequel, especially with Miley.
Let's hope they don't make it out of the city alive in that one...
