Were you a kid in the 80s? Did you have a BMX?
If you answered yes and then no, then I honestly pity you my friend, because the kind of fun that could be found on a BMX in the 80s was the kind of fun that you will never find again.
BMX was so good, I didn't even realise how good it was, because everyone I new had one, its just what you did as a little dude cruising around back in the day.
Go to school – on my BMX. Go to the shops – on my BMX. Play all weekend – on my BMX. That's right, baby! I was a BMX bandit!
It was so good they even made a stack of movies about them.
Now, just in case we get into some kind of mix up, I'm not talking about a brand, I just mean the cool little off-road push bike that we all road around on back in the day. I think I originally had a blue Roadmaster that was kinda heavy for decent bunny-hops, but was awesome for launching off jumps. I had this other beast too, but I can't remember what it was.
We had some crazy accident back in the day too. One of the most feared situations to get on your bike was the 'speed-wobbles'. Man, unless you were a real pro, the speed-wobbles almost always meant unavoidable pain.
The worst stack I can remember, was when I was speeding down a dirt track back at Bobby Finstocks farm and I started to get those speed-wobbles real bad. Unfortunately, this was before I'd removed my front breaks, and I made the rookie mistake of slamming on my fronts at high speed.
Needless to say, I flew over the front bars and skidded along that hard gravel. I still remember to this day peeling off my white singlet as it stuck to my bloodied and ripped skin.
Good times.
I would love another BMX about now...
I found my exact old ride (below) at BMX Museum, check it out for some of the best memories of your life.
"Me, I ride for me."

I was reminiscing only yesterday about my heavenly Malvern Star Grand Prix, with it's metallic frame, gold rims and white walls. Christmas 83 never looked so good.
Now that the streets are over-crowded with classic racers, restored with short handlebars and tricked up single speed or fixies, the indie kids this side of town are resurrecting BMXs. Original ones are popping up all over the palce.
Add yeah, I did feel like Nicole Kidman from BMX Bandits with my head of curls and street ready wheels. Although riding the streets of Tamworth wasn't realy that cool.
Years later my beloved BMX was nicked in Smith St by a junkie - hope he got something decent for it as it was worth a fair penny back in its heyday.

This bought back more memories than any of your other posts Jarrah!
I would love to buy a BMX just to ride down to the station with. You never grow out of that.
