Die Hard

Too tough to die
John McClane kicked some serious damn ass back in the 80s.
I don't know about his latest affair, but when the Nakatomi building was under siege back in 88, you know who took it to the man single handily and won back his wife in the same sweep.
As if it wouldn’t have been a hard enough task as it was, McClane took down those crazy German bastards bare-footed and in a wife-beater singlet.
We’re not exactly talking the Mr Freeze line of bad guys either, we’re talking about Alan Rickman, and the dude has played more super-bad dudes than Gene Hackman has had roles. He also played the awesome sheriff in Prince of Thieves and apparently is the evil dude in Harry Potter too.
Anyway, this was a fair departure for Bruce Willis at the time, considering he’d pretty much come straight out of Moonlighting into this action film extravaganza. Considering that, its not surprising that he ends up buddy, buddy (almost too buddy, buddy if you hear me) with the dad from Family Matters.
This film really helped shaped future action movies with Willis’ quick wit and his ‘everyman’ appearance, as opposed to the superman characters of Schwarzenegger and Stallone.
One scene I always remember being big at the time and was on all the trailers, was when McClane swung out on the fire hose and shot through the window and landed in the other room – a sensational move that I’ve utilized myself many times in my day to day routine.
“Yippee ki ay, motherf***er.”
