Donkey Kong

Monkey business
It’s hard to believe that a stereo-typically nerdy video games addict could be classified as cool. It happened. Really.
Back in the early 80s, arcade games were at their peak and for a short time in what is known as the golden age of video gaming, gamers were cool.
People would gather around arcades in mobs to see the highscore being cracked at Space Invaders, Pac-Man and of course Donkey Kong.
In the gaming community, Kong has always been known as one of the hardest games ever devised, and its true! That game is damn hard!
Man, it’s hard to even get past the first level. Then when you get proficient enough at climbing those girders, the elevator stage that comes a few levels later is extreme! And that's just a few stages in.
Either way, it was one of the most popular games ever made and it still kicks around today in various updated formats.
I remember I had some version of Donkey Kong in one of those old hand-held Game & Watch LCD screen games (remember those!?) and it was a pretty hard slog.
One of the biggest things that came from Kong was Jump Man…soon to be renamed Mario.
Yep, Mario eventually bested his angry Gorilla friend and went onto super-stardom of his own…but that's another story.
And if you think the days of Donkey Kong highscores are long over, think again, because as the award-winning and hilarious King of Kong film documents, the race is continually on and is often a deceitful and political road.
“Its on like Donkey Kong!”
