Ice Cube

Back in the late 80s and early 90s, when gangster rap was exploding, you had a big choice to make.
Were you with the T or the Cube?
Although I dug Ice T, and I can now appreciated his 70s-inspired funk and his sense of humor more these days, I was definitely a Cube man.
Now, his rants on political agendas and social relations seem over-serious and self-important, but back in the day, that stuff was radio-wave gold.
Cube made it into the big time when he portrayed the infamous Darin 'Dough Boy' Baker in Boyz n the Hood, which many (including myself) felt that he deserved an Academy award for, or at least a Globe. But for some reason he never did a serious role again, and now spends his screen time on comedies (including his classic Friday franchise ) and fast paced action films.
But that was all 90s.
In the 80s Cube was one thing. A Nigga With Attitude.
In 1986, along with Dr Dre, Eazy-E, MC Ren and DJ Yella, O'Shea Jackson AKA Ice Cube formed what was to become the most famous and notorious rap group that ever was - NWA.
Their second album Straight Outta Compton was a runaway success and is still considered to be the seminal gangster rap album. With his long Jheri curls and famous scowl, Ice Cube wrote the albums' most ground-breaking songs, like F*** the Police and Straight Outta Compton
Naturally, such a heated bunch of boyz couldn't stay together long.
NWA went on to record without him, and produced the brilliant 100 Miles and Runnin', and Cube went one step further and made the classic Predator album, which features my favorite rap track ever - It Was a Good Day.
The funny thing is, the dude nearly looks exactly the same more than 15 years later.

People always give shit to 80s fashion, which is valid, but those dudes look cooler than rappers do these days!
