Major League

I love sports movies.
And Major League is hands down my favorite of all time. In fact, its one of my favorite movies full-stop.
It might not have all the seriousness of Bull Durham or the fantasy of Field of Dreams or The Natural, but it does take all the best elements of these, adds a stack of one liners and brings it all together for possibly the best final game of any movie.
The hum as the birds-eye-view shows the stadium at full capacity sets the stage perfectly.
Jake’s knees hurt. Things aren’t looking good.
But Dorn hits one and then Cerrano smashes it out of the park.
But the classic moment is when legendary manager Lou Brown steps up to the plate –
‘Get me Vaughn’
‘What? You want Vaughn?’
It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve seen it, Wild Thing still gives you goosebumps; classic.
It all ends with the classic commentator Harry Doyle screaming ‘The Indians win it! The Indians win it! Oh my God! The Indians win it!’
Every character is memorable and every line is a keeper. I remember a hundred lines from this movie being quoted in the schoolyard daily.
I love it when the motley team rock up separately to spring training and Lou states -
‘My kinda team Charlie, it’s my kinda team’
Couldn’t agree more.
'Get me Vaughn'
'Yo, bartender, Jobu needs a refill.'
