Stiff act to follow
Andrew McCarthy and Kim Catrall – not exactly an Oscar winning couple if you know what I mean?
But, somehow they did manage to hit a little box office gold in this classic 80s feel-good comedy.
This film is PURE 80s – the clothes, the look, the theme, the sound. In what was a more romantic landscape at the time, nothing seemed impossible to a lovestruck American – even if his girlfriend was a cursed Egyptian mummy who has been frozen into a department store dummy.
Naturally, what follows is a series of bumbling lies, chance encounters and embarrassment for Andrew McCarthy’s character.
Obviously, you need a bad dude too, and there are few as versed as James Spader.
Luckily though, love conquers all and Andy-boy is so inspired by Kim Catrall that his window arrangements make him the toast of the town and, naturally, his true love for the mannequin-chick will break the curse…just another day in 80s Land folks.
Even more 80s-esque and memorable was the theme song Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now, bought to us by the same people that bought us We Built This City…classic.
You know, when I was a kid I thought the most brilliant thing about this was that they could run around the department store at night and have all the fun they wanted. It really was the ultimate – plus he had a hot chick with him for the whole time, and some crazy eccentric designer called Hollywood covering for him. In my mind, that was a possibility for the future.
“That's easy for you to say. You're a mannequin, you'll always have work.”

I think we all felt the same way - hence the film's success. All I wanted was a manequin and a dept store LOL
