Ice T

September 9th 2008 16:04
Ice T

Tracy Lauren Marrow (Ice T) was one of the very first pioneers of Gangsta Rap.
Yep, all the way back in '82, Ice started layin' down the kind of jams no one had ever heard before.

We're talkin' 80s T, when he was a Cop Killer and not a cop actor.
Yes, he might be Detective Odafin Tutuola on Law & Order now, but I remember when Ice T was the real deal. He made the music that politicians wanted banned and mothers didn't understand.

Man, the dude even made some kick ass metal tunes too. When I listened back to a little Bodycount today, I was actually pretty impressed. Sure, some of if is very cringe worthy, but it was very edgy and a gutsy move on his behalf. I'm surprised more rappers didn't follow suit. - Instead, we got white-trash country metal-heads trying to rap, not the other way around.

He was a cool dancer too, and even an actor.
He first turned up in Breakin' (Breakdance: The Movie) and eventually kicked some butt in New Jack City. Once he played some kind of kangaroo-mutant in Tank Girl too.

Ice T was born over in Jersey but after the poor little gangster became an orphan he moved over to L.A. and even joined the army!
He says, that's how he got so angry and spiteful at the government.

Word.

Ice T Power

'...on with the body count!'

The 80's had the flashiest cars of all time.
They were in the movies, on the TV, in video games, and in our dreams.

Gullwing doors, racing vents, targa tops, huge spoilers.

Yes, every over-the-top design was put into action.

EVERYONE had their favorite.
Was it a Ferrari Testarossa? The Back to the Future Delorean? KITT?

Heres a few gems:

Thundercats Movie

April 21st 2008 00:04
thundercats movie

Big hair and hirsute chests are coming back in fashion - even for women.

Warner Bros. has hired videogame veteran Jerry O'Flaherty to helm their forthcoming big-screen CG-animated adaptation of Thundercats.

O'Flaherty will tweak the script with screenwriter Paul Sopocy. He says his film will remain faithful to the original franchise.

The script is described as an origin story expanding on the major heroes and villains from the animated series, with the plot focusing on Lion-O coming of age as the leader of the Thundercats.

It will be a disappointment to some, as they previously stated that they were planning to create a live action movie on the cult cartoon series. After the lukewarm reception of the TMNT CG movie, this will have to be impressive.

The news comes just weeks after it was announced the studio was also finally moving ahead with a live-action adaptation of other 80's cartoon smash "He-Man" (Masters of the Universe 2009) – more on that later...

TMNT

Martial arts and Ninja mania swept the world during the 80’s due to the popularity of Kung Fu Theater and ninja movies (American Ninja etc.). The Karate Kid became a blockbuster hit film, and raised interest in the arts. The cartoon characters Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles became a widely mass-marketed pop culture phenomenon in the late 1980s.
