Rants - Back To The Eighties

I’ve touched on heroes a few times already on this blog, and will continue to in the future.
But, apparently that’s not really allowed anymore.

Yesterday I read an article in the paper about a women and her Batman loving son.
Firstly she explained how she’s against superheroes and encouraging a view of goodies VS baddies. Good VS Evil.

You’re kidding me right?

That is exactly what we need more of! Enough of this baby boomer hippy love solution it’s time to throw away the feminine EMO boys and make superheroes out of them!

In case you think otherwise, I am deadly serious.

She went on to explain her fears at encouraging violence, which is validated, but over emphasized. Young boys have been battling it out since time began. That’s how you learn and

grow. Hell, when I grew up in the 80’s, we kicked 6 shades out of each other with our homemade Ninja Turtle nun-chucks every day of the week, and I’ve never attacked and/or killed anyone (yet). Now kids aren’t even allowed to do that stuff in video games.

Do I tell the dogs off for wrestling in the yard? Hell no I don’t.
Because do you know what happens if they don’t get it out? 10 years later they slit their wrists, or take a machine gun to school...okay, dogs wouldn’t do anything that crazy.

Anyway, she finally realised that her son should be able to like Batman, and bought him a cape and mask.

But...apparently after he presented it to the kindergarten class at show & share (they are no longer allowed to tell anymore either...) it was taken from him, because playing superheroes is banned - but making mud cakes is the norm.

Well, I’d rather my son grow up to be Bruce Wayne than Jamie Oliver.

We need crime fighters. We need heroes.

Do you know why they didn’t have conscription for WWII? Because everyone wanted to be a hero and fight for their family and friends.

It’s hard to imagine, but if a child of mine was killed by a mob boss after fighting crime in the streets – I would be shattered. Shattered; but proud. And so would they. Kids need more self worth.

Contrary to popular belief, there are worse things to happen to a person than dying.
I’m not saying they need to be testosterone fueled Rambo-nutters, but you can be Clark Kent with Superman tucked away if the situation arises.

Men – teach your sons to be men.
Women – let them be men!

80’s Blog: ‘We’ve Lost That Loving Feeling’

Eighties culture has slowly and surely made its way back into the mainstream conscience.

I remember seeing hints of its re-emergence back in 2000, but now it has turned into a fully-fledged reunion. The way things are going, it will probably last longer than the decade itself.

Understandably, some have already had enough of the 80’s re-surge, and well, some probably had enough the first time around.
But what did the 80’s have that we don’t have today anyway?

That loving feeling....

You know what I mean. Where’s the goosebumps? Where’s the passion and inspiration gone?

I know it all sounds a little cheesy, but hey, that’s the 80’s.

In the 80’s it seemed like anything was possible. Like there was hope. Not the kind of hope they tried to cultivate in the 60’s, but more of a heroic romance that seemed to lace the air.

If you worked hard enough you could become a multi-millionaire executive overnight. If you trained long enough you could become the heavyweight world champ. And if you ran to the airport fast enough, you could walk away with the love of your life.

You could be the hero.

Now?

Now the hero always dies. Then the forensic teams come in and dissect every grotesque inch of their dead carcass for our morbid amusement.
If you aspire to be a forensic scientist and hack through rotting corpses for a living, thats your choice.....
