Red scare
The first half of this movie is a great concept and fairly well executed. I think most people (guys at least) have thought about what would happen if the country was invaded. Back in the 80s, during the Cold War, the threat of WWIII seemed to be a realistic scenario.
I always thought running off to the hills during an outbreak with a bunch of mates was a great idea, then of coarse fighting back in small mercenary moves once we have bunkered down for a bit -- so I could relate on that level.
The film starts to lose steam a bit during the end, which is typical of any 80s movies that goes over the 90 minutes mark.
Its pretty cool to see all the young talent though, like a young Charlie Sheen, C Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson and Jennifer (Baby) Grey with Pat Swayze who we featured recently in our Dirty Dancing post.
It’s amazing to think that this was once believed to be an extremely violent movie. It was even rated in the Guinness Book of Records as the most!
It certainly isn’t that violent, but it is fairly realistic for 80s standards.
Its was a great idea for a movie, but somewhere along the line the kids suddenly become hardcore fighting gorillas and it starts to become clear that American political pro-firearms views are being stuffed down your throat, which is never good, and this is from someone that owns guns…but, as usual, it is apparently set for a remake soon.
“Wolverines!”
