RoboCop

Heavy law enforcement
I must say that I haven’t seen Robocop for some time.
It’s one of those 80s movies that looks kinda cheesy and cutesy from the iconic images and themes that always accompany the film, but when you actually see it again, you realise it was rough, gritty and a little hardcore for its time.
RoboCop was a fairly generic idea for an 80s movie, but through some very imaginative and ironic futuristic design, this sucker blew-up at the box office.
I’m pretty sure it was rated R when this thing first came out and was bloody as hell. It had some very memorable music and scoring to go along with it too.
I can remember when Murphy (RoboCop) takes off by himself for the first time in robot form and drives out of that cop carpark with that cool orchestration going. Great scene.
The second pushed the boundaries even further with some more great future commercials, a new killer robot cop and a wicked drug named ‘nuke’ that you inject in your neck. That was pretty damn cool back in the day. The kid running the whole underground drug cartel was a little much though, even for Neo-Detroit.
It was one of the first introductions of cyberpunk to the western world and contained several ‘in-house’ jokes and running gags and has since turned into a worldwide cult classic.
I didn’t see the ill-fated third film, but they have been trying to make a new one for years now. Apparently it is finally on its way into production and should be out around 2010.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"
