The Secret of My Succe$s

soms michael j fox

That is how you spell success

This is the kind of film that Michael J Fox could pull off in his sleep. It’s his bread and butter.
And only he could turn a money hungry yuppie that sleeps his way to the top (including a stop off with his aunt!) into a lovable and determined country boy from Kansas that has dreams for honest success.

Obviously, he does find success, and we all know what the secret is...

It’s a classic movie of the time and it doesn’t get any more 80s-cliched than this, which isn’t surprising seeing as it was made by the same guys that bought us Top Gun and Footloose.

You gotta love Mike's great delivery, especially when trying to pull off two jobs at once as the calamity that follows.

The music is upbeat and inspiring when business is good, and cheesy and sad when things are going down hill – a great soundtrack that is well out of print.

It couldn’t have been cast more awkwardly though, seeing as Helen Slater absolutely towers over the tiny Michael J. Can you imagine how many set problems they had, trying to find places for them to kiss?

Either way, this stuff was inspiring to me when I was younger. I didn't even know what the hell his job was and I didn’t care either, but it’s exactly what I wanted to do when I was older – work my way to the top of a big-ass rich company.

Well, that’s what I wanted to do for the two days after watching this anyway. Just like I wanted to play baseball after watching Major League, or be a karate champion after watching The Kid…

“I was having fun on this job! You had all this energy, and all these crazy ideas... and you kept taking your pants off.”

sweet - I know I like this, without really knowing WHY I like it. One of those movies that almost defined the 80s...

Good movie. I loved the song "Water Fountain" by David Foster in this movie.
