Terminator

With the Sarah Connor Chronicles well on its way, why not take a trip back to where it all began.
Action movies were a dime a dozen in the 80’s, and B-grade sci-fi thrillers were even more prolific.
Say it’s 1984 - someone tells you there’s a new action sci-fi coming out with the guy from Conan the Barbarian in it. It’s about a cyborg sent back from some future war to kill a lady.
Oh, and it’s called The Terminator.
Straight to VHS?
Even though it doesn’t look so hot on paper, somehow James Cameron managed to turn this budget sci-fi into a heartfelt story about a typical city girl turning into a strong, determined woman
Further along it changed to a boy becoming a strong, determined man.
The Terminator seemed so realistic to anything else at the time. Its gritty depiction of the future, coupled with its metal-skeleton soldiers helped solidify the urgency of Kyle Reese’ cause; this must be stopped at all cost.
While it lost a little of its gritty edge on T2 – some still say (myself included) that it is the best action movie ever made.
Never before had anyone ever coupled so much carnage, violence, heart pounding chases and combined it with heart, wisdom and realism.
Also, no one had ever seen the bad guy return as a good before, and amazingly, it worked even better.
The best thing about T2 was the chemistry between John and the T100. And even though Nick Stahl did a bang up job as John on T3, it just lacked that bond that they shared.
Let us not forget Sarah Connor. After all, it is her story. The ditsy young girl turned crazed, kick arse, muscle bound commando mother. Sigourney Weaver didn’t even stand up next to Linda Hamilton.
I feel sorry for Lena Headey who plays Sarah in the new series, what big shoes to fill. And while the show is better than I expected, she aint no Linda Hamilton, that’s for sure.
I watched T2 so many times as a teenager I could quote every second line. I have a friend that can quote every line and sing every note to the score while the sound is down and he is drunk. He even does the sound effects (the ones off screen too!) Yes, this movie has had an impact on many lives.
It had one of the best endings ever put to film, and left us to wonder – if a machine, a Terminator, can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too...

The Terminator must have had an influence on the show Angel. The whole Angelus/Angel split like Arnie coming back and trying to help Sarah Connor; Connor being the name of Angel's son with a similar rengade vengeance. The Terminator definatley has its place in film history!!

Another fun post.
The first Terminator is an awesome suspense thriller with some highly original concepts, I love it.
The second wasn't bad as far as big budget effects and carrying on the line, but didn't engage me in the same way because of lack of darkness.

Get ready for the next one sometime next year. They are ignoring the 3rd one - sorry Nick Stahl and I think jumping to the war.
American Psycho/ Batman Christian Bale will play our boy all grown up and McG is directing.
Here's the IMDB link

Back to the Eighties
I'm open for more movies and shows, but theres just no class.
Why couldn't Nick Stahl and Claire Daines return for 4?
And McG?? He's a TV director - the O.c and Supernatural. Great.
And why did they have to travel to 2007 in the series to wreck the T3 timeline??
A funny note is that Linda Hamilton actually helped destroy the series.
She was married to James Cameron, and in the divorce she asked for the rights to Terminator - and got them!
Then she sold them straight away.
Goodbye classic franchise.
