Tron

Do you believe in the Users?
Like most kids back in the eighties, I had no idea what the hell was going on in this movie. Firstly, because I never made it to the end because it seemed unbelievably boring, and secondly, this movie may have been marketed towards kids by Disney, but it is definitely not a kids movie.
On recent playback, this film held up surprisingly well. It could have been that my expectations were fairly low, or that I never loved it in the first place. It is, in fact, an amazing movie.
The dated CGI still holds up well, and while the b&w faces is dated the rest just serves as a retro-style that just helps the individuality of the movie, it really is an amazing ride.
It starts to get a little thin during the end, but Jeff Bridges and great scenes like the famous Light Cycle race are still sensational.
The animations took so long to do (even longer than a high-end hand drawn animation) and were so expensive that Disney refused to make a direct sequel after its initial release.
Technology has obviously improved, and Tron has become an underground cult classic – so now, after nearly 10 years of throwing ideas for a sequel back and forth, Tron 2 (TR2N or Tron 2.0) has been set into production for a 2011 release – 29 years after the original.
At least it is good to know it is a sequel and not a remake. Bridges will be reprising his role as Flynn, as can be seen below on the special preview trailer that was shown at Comicon.
“On the other side of the screen, it all looks so easy.”

What a great classic! Truly one of the pioneers of its time as you say and one that inspired so many of todays over the top CGI headaches, with its remarkable walk through tomorrowland inside the desktop PC.
Tron remains one of my favourites with its retro style and easy to follow plot.
