Who's the Boss?

Man about the house
Ah, Tony Danza – what an actor.
Even though he has gone on to greater things (ahem) none of us can forget his 80s sitcom staple Who’s the Boss?
Obviously, the greatest thing about this show was its effort in introducing Alyssa Milano to the world. Sam, as she was known on the show, was one of my favourite girls on the box at the time, and like a fine wine, it can only be said that she has improved with age. Alyssa Milano even turned up for a Who’s The Boss reunion recently. Although she was very humble, the show was a complete embarrassment – and took place on the Tony Danza Show. Ouch.
Anyway, I guess the show was a fairly unique idea, in that Tony and Sam rock up on the doorstep one day and he turns into a live-in housemaid type of dude.
The whole show kind of hinged on the sexual tension and awkwardness between Tony and his boss/landlord/housemate/friend Angela. It also provided a lot of contrast, as Tony was the laid-back ex-ball player and Angela was the rich and controlling businesswomen.
Her retired mother Mona famously provided half of the laughs with her overgrown sexual appetite and quick wit.
Although it was a quint little show, it actually pushed the boundaries with its various displays of stereotype role-reversal.
It also had a typically catchy and heartfelt theme, and I can still remember Tony’s blue van pulling up to the house every time.
“An open road and a road that's hidden a brand new life around the bend.”
