Young Guns

While many tried to flog Young Guns off as an 'MTV Western' it was actually hailed by experts and historians as the most accurate in terms of events and the character of Billy as was portrayed by Emilio Estevez.
Young Guns and its worthy, if not superior, sequel Young Guns II gave a little more than the average western.
This wasn't just about action and gun fights. This had characters you could relate to and emotions you could cling on to.
An outstanding cast accompanied Emilio. His own brother Charlie Sheen was on board as his bitter leader, as well as young Kiefer Sutherland hot off the heels of his success in Lost Boys. Lou Diamond Phillips was huge after La Bamba, and they even dragged in Jack Palance as the bad guy.
Young Guns II took on a unique spin by having the events being retold by Brushy Bill Roberts who emerged in the early 1900's, claiming to be Billy the Kid.
Some thought this was a lame turn, but I personally thought it was a great twist on the story, and helped keep things fresh from the first film.
We see less action and story in the sequel, but a far more developed character in Billy, who has matured, but is making less sense and starting to slip in his judgments.
His relationship with the newly added Pat Garret, brilliantly played by William Peterson (Mr CSI) deepened the movie even more and the addition of the cocky and brash Christian Slater livened things up.
The score to both movies is also outstanding, particularly the second, and of course Jon Bon Jovi got in his famous hit Blaze of Glory.
Theres about a million quotable lines in there as well.
Great movies, 2 of my favorites.

I love Young Guns. Actually Blaze of Glory is to be blamed for me becoming a huge Bon Jovi fan. I always liked Bon Jovi. But I grew up watching westerns. I absolutely loved westerns. I loved Young Guns when it came out, so went and saw Young Guns II at the movies and loved that. So I got the soundtrack, Blaze of Glory by Jon Bon Jovi. Within about a month, I had also bought all Bon Jovi CDs and was a confirmed Bon Jovi fan for life.
I'm going to have to dig out the video now and watch it again. I haven't seen it for so long.
